BREAKING SPORTS 10am 7-28-08 Battlewings Claim First af2 Division Title: Down Austin 65-54Now the REALLY-BIG challenge: The BattleWings will host #6 seed Lubbock Renegades in the first round of the af2 Playoffs Saturday, 7pm August 2nd at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City. This will the first home playoff game for the BattleWings in team history, and fans are urged to pack the CenturyTel and show their support. Tickets for this historic event are available by calling 318-746-8755. Now, back to the Division Championship Win: The BattleWings opened the 1st quarter with four straight touchdown drives, after allowing a 33 yard touchdown strike from Wrangler QB Andy Hall to WR Sean Henley, and scored on their first eight offensive possessions of the game. WR Chavis McCollister led the Wings' early offensive charge with a 57 yard kickoff return for a touchdown, 2 touchdown rushes from 2 and 4 yards out, and 2 touchdown receptions spanning 13 and 31 yards to stake the BattleWings to a 49-27 halftime lead. The Wings' first half fury was reduced to a fizzle as the Wranglers limited the BattleWings to only 16 points in the second half. The Wranglers cut their 22 point halftime deficit to 5 with 4:51 remaining in the game on a WR John Roberson 26 yard touchdown catch. The BattleWings, backed up at their own 3 yard line, answered with a 47yard drive finished by FB Jason Schule's 3 yard touchdown run that made the Final Score: Battlewings 65 - Wranglers 54. |
