Wednesday, Jul 30, 2008 1:55pm

BATON ROUGE,  LA  (By: Tom Pace, Talk of the Town) BREAKING: STATE NEWS 4pm 7-30-08  It was so successful last year, it happens again in 2008.  That's the "Louisiana Sales Tax Holiday Weekend," this Friday and Saturday, August 1st and 2nd.  For complete details, click here to the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) website.

According to the LDR, the state sales-tax exemption begins at 12:01am Friday, and ends at 12 midnight, Saturday.  Under the state formula, the first $2,500 of the purchase price of most non-food items will be exempt from the state's 4 percent sales tax.

However, according to the LDR, the exemption does not apply to automobiles and restaurant meals, the governor's office said. The sales tax holiday is designed in large part to help parents when they buy back-to-school items.  Local sales taxes will still be in effect.
