BREAKING 11am 8-4-08 Caddo Voters Deadline: Switch Parties; New Registration: 6pm Wed Aug 6

SHREVEPORT, LA (By: Tom Pace, Executive Editor, Talk of the Town) BREAKING: ELECTION NEWS 11am 8-4-08  The deadline draws near, says Caddo Registrar of Voters Ernie Roberson: it's 6pm, this Wednesday, August 6th. 

That's your last chance to qualify to vote in the September 6th federal elections for the House of Representatives and U.S. Senate. Caddo residents who want to register to vote, change party affiliation, or make changes to their current registration. like a new address or such.

The Registrar of Voters office in Caddo Parish will be open until 6:00 p.m. to receive voter registration applications and changes. Voters in this election will be participating in Louisiana's first statewide closed party primaries. In Caddo Parish the Democratic and Republican party primaries for U.S. Congress will be on the ballot.

According to Roberson, in this closed party primary, registered Republicans will only vote on Republican candidates for Congress and registered Democrats will only be eligible to vote on the Democratic party candidates for Congress.

Voters who are independents, no party or affiliated with a non-recognized party  will be eligible to participate in the Democratic party primary by a choice of the party.

Libertarians, Reform and Green party voters will not be eligible to vote in the party primaries of the Democrats or Republicans. Voters can check their voter registration information online at: www.sos.louisiana.gov, then click on 'Poll Locator.'
 
The Registrar of Voters office is located at 525 Marshall, Suite # 103 across from the Courthouse in downtown Shreveport. Voters should bring some photo identification such as a driver's license, governmental i.d., etc and proof of residency in Caddo Parish.
