BREAKING 8-21-08 Shreveport Restaurants Announce Closings: Don's Seafood & On The Border
Thursday, Aug 21, 2008 10:33am
SHREVEPORT, LA From KTBS-TV (By: Tom Pace, Talk of the Town) BREAKING: RESTAURANT NEWS  1pm 8-21-08  Two Shreveport restaurants will soon be closing their doors.  Just today, "On The Border" mexican restaurant on Youree Drive in Shreveport announced they will close next Wednesday.

That follows the announcement yesterday that, after 43 years, Don's Seafood & Steakhouse will be closing its landmark Kings Highway location.
According to KTBS-TV3, between 50 and 60 employees will lose their jobs, although they can apply for jobs at other restaurants owned by On The Border's parent company, Brinker International Restaurants.

Those other restaurants include Chili's and Macaroni Grill, which have restaurants on Youree Drive, and Maggiano's Little Italy. A spokesman for the restaurant did not say why it is closing.

Besides the increased cost of gasoline, and higher food prices, one of the reasons Don's Seafood cited for its decision to close was the increased competition from chain restaurants on Youree Drive.

How very ironic: that one of those very chain restaurants will now be closing as well.

After 10 years in the city, "On the Border's" final day is next Wednesday, August 27th. Don's Seafood last day of operation will be this Sunday, August 24th.
