Thursday, Jan 24, 2008 9:30am
A copy of "The History of the Shreveport Fire Department'’s Bomb Squad (1962-2008)" will be presented Friday by author Gene Barattini to two of the volume's primary sources, Terry Hayes and C.G. Vaughn.

Hayes is a retired Shreveport Fire Department Chief of Fire Prevention and bomb technician, while Vaughn,a World War II veteran, is a former Army Explosive Ordnance Detachment commander and former Caddo-Bossier Civil Defense training officer.

The 68-page, illustrated book chronicles the city's bomb squad from its beginning in 1962 to today’'s state-of-the-art section.

Barattini, a local emergency manager, educator and historian, spent months researching the book and interviewing current and retired Shreveport firefighters.

The author's presentation to Hayes and Vaughn will be at 10 a.m. at the city's Fire Prevention Bureau/Fire Investigation building, 1700 Snow Street.

Copies of the book are available from the publisher at
www.lulu.com for $27.20 hardcover, or $ 14.73, paperback, plus shipping, or directly from Barattini for $30 hardback or $17 paperback, shipping included, by calling (318) 742-4710.
