Y'all want to feel old? Sgt. Pepper's turned 40 this weekend.
|
For the benefit of Mr. Kite there will be a show tonight :D and be sure and watch out for Henry the Horse too ;)
|
LOL I often felt that the 80's was a big disappointment as far as music goes.. but you know what.. looking back on it.. I feel that some of that stuff I hated back then.. today, sounds better than some of the crap I hear today :)
But I would also argue, there WAS plenty of good music as well :) just not all that crap they tried to shove down my throat via MTV and local radio :) Back in the mid to late 80's you could often fine me at Humphrees in the Square or Enoch's listening to A-Train or the Bluebirds, and man what a good time that was !! |
The 1980s was the best popular music era ever. People forget that the vast majority of the music in the 60s and 70s was really, really terrible because the good stuff was really good. For every Beatles/Stones/Beach Boys/Pink Floyd there were five million really, really awful bands. The worst era of popular music is the last 10-15 years.
For Christ's sake "Penny Lane" only made it to #2 on the British charts behind Engelbert Humperdinck's "Release Me." I'll say that again: "Penny Lane" was #2 on the British charts behind a song by Engelbert Humperdinck. |
the whole "Popular music chart" system has changed completely in the last 20-30 years..
Back in the day, the #1 song, heck the top 10 songs.. at any given time.. would most likely be known by anyone and everyone. But today, the musical audience is so fragmented. so many channels, so many genres. I can't name a single top 10 song right now. probably doesn't help that I don't listen to the "Radio" anymore. same can be said for T.V. used to be with just the 3 network channels that were out there, an audience for any given show was much larger.. now with all the damn stations we have now. Even a successful show, only garners a small fraction of the audience older shows used to. |
>ow with all the damn stations we have now. Even a successful show, only garners a small fraction of the audience older shows used to.
Good. What most people like is crap. |

Let's not knock reality shows now. I am a fan of Big Brother, Survivor. Amazing Race and the new one Pirate Master. Very Good! Of course I don't miss none of the CSI's. I love reality show but I would not enter one. I AIN'T eating no live bugs. But has for Isaac his is Lost In Space.
|
I've watched 1 or 2 seasons of Survivor, but it's not a series I'd go out of my way to catch.

You do keep your promises don't you ? OH let me see ? Does this fit in with showing up and being on time ????    |
Anime and I are in contact with each other regarding his date. Would you like to be the one? Is that why you are asking? These things take time to find the right girl for him.
On time? Showing up? Did I miss something and not know it?????????? or were you just hoping for a visit?????????? |

I'm neither proud of these facts, nor am I a retard. I just don't watch that much TV and when I do, I like real stuff like history, cooking, and crab fishing. You know, practical information. I'm practical. :D |
I've never watched "Deadliest Catch," but I thought it was more of a documentary than a reality show.
1. "Seinfeld" is the "Sgt. Peppers" of the situation comedy. It raised the bar and has directly influenced every single comedy since. It's amazing to watch an old episode to see how well it has kept up, how it wasn't preachy or political, and how clever every single bit of detail in the plot or dialog was. 2. "The Simpsons" is the most intelligent fictional program in the history of network television. At least it was for the first nine or ten seasons. Now it is drivel. 3. "South Park" was a breakthrough in what shows were allowed to get away with. Also, Kenny doesn't always get killed, anymore. 4. The best comedy of the last decade was "Arrested Development" and the best action/drama was "Firefly." "Firefly" failed because Fox didn't know how to market it. AD failed partly for the same reason, but mostly because the majority of the television-viewing public is too stupid to appreciate anything more clever than "Friends," "King of Queens," or "Everybody Loves Raymond." AD was also a single-camera show that didn't use a laugh track, so stupid people weren't sure if it was funny. If you've never seen either of these shows I suggest you Netflix them and watch their entire runs from the beginnings. |

A "reality show" documents how "real" people react to artificial circumstances. A "documentariy" documents real life.

Actually I would classify the Deadliest Catch as a documentary slash soap opera. Technically speaking, of course. Last episode, they came to shore for a prop repair and one of the deckhands got arrested right on the dock for missing a court date while he was out at sea. The other deck mates all rushed to the ATM to take out cash to bale him out. |
Their actual jobs are not artificial circumstances created for the sake of the show. A show about how you and I would fare on a fishing boat would be a reality show.

But while we are at port, it might be called an educational documentary called "Pimp my Boat". We would wire and unwire that sucker until it sank of electronics buildup rather than ice buildup. :D |
I'm with you Belle. I wonder which one the crab would get.
|
I can see the title now. Night of the Living Crab:clap:

Trying? Did you say Trying?   With me in the wheel house running things? I would make my crew flip those pots until our bin boards are creeking and our hull is busting at the seams. Then we'd jog on back to port to off load our Bering sea gold. Bank on it! :D |

I said "ask my wife" because she has suffered through my Tuesday night crab fishing classes... Plus I tutor her after class. She knows the drill. Bait pots, set pots, jog while they soak, pull pots, sort crab, and bait more pots... She'd make a damn good deckhand in heels if it wasn't for the risk of breaking a finger nail. |
Okay Rhertz, I have to ask, Exactly how many times have you been on a boat crab fishing. You give classes on this. Is there a on hands training with this class?

You know Rhertz, that did not come out quite right. Your saying after 24 years of marriage all you do is dream about crab fishing. Do me and the girls need to talk to the little woman. How bout it Belle and Pokie can we hook Rhertz up? It seems a waste that all he can do is dream and no doubt crab fishing.
|
we all have to have our little "Distraction", hell, I built a bar on my back patio :) and all week long, I dream of "whiskey day" LOL
|
I have a dream  that in seven years I can retire and travel which is my light at the end of the tunnel. I will be 54 years old then and forget the mobile homes give me the best hotels and restaurants  Three tax paying children and plenty of time on my hands.  Me and Mrs. Isaac sailing off in the sunset with a glass of fine wine ;)
