Shouldn't We Be Protecting Our Children From Porn?
A federal judge on Thursday dealt another blow to government efforts to control Internet pornography, striking down a 1998 U.S. law that makes it a crime for commercial Web site operators to let children access "harmful" material.

Yes, we should be protecting our children from porn! When I caught my son at 12 years old looking at porn on the computer, I installed NetNanny. The computer would shut down everytime he went to a site he was not allowed to view. There definitely should be laws to protect our children from porn.

My favorite method is not to have the computer enforce your child's Internet experience, but install a program that will do periodically random screen dumps that you can check to see if your child has gone to a site that he/she shouldn't be going to. Such programs will take screen shots randomly and hide them somewhere on the computer. If you find a large screen shot from a porn site among them, the jig's up. This way, the computer only monitors your child's experience and you are the one who enforces it. |

everyone in the house had each their own computer and I would have never had it any other way. I am not one for sharing my computer the few times I did I always came back to some thing changed, even with a different login. It's also a good tool to use when they need punishment, take it away for a week and watch the child behave differently. |
It is true NetNanny did block some good sites, but he would call me in the room and I would allow the site. I did not have time to stand over him the whole time he was on the computer. I felt at ease since he did have his own computer in his room. NetNanny was very effective. When he was a freshman in college he asked if it could be taken off since he was 18. I agreed. I bet he made up for lost time. ;)

Should we be protecting our kids from porn? Probably.
Should the Federal government be protecting our kids from porn? Definitely not. |

What ever happened to parenting..... Are parents so weak minded that they need help from government for control of their kids?
|
I do not see it as anyone's job other than my own to watch what my children are doing on the internet.. It is my job to protect them, nurture them, govern them, teach them, and so on and so forth. You should not rely on the government for this, they did not have the children. Furthermore, I don't want their intrusiveness into my life.

What do I think of homeschooling? I think it is fabulous if you can do it and if your child can handle it. Most of the public schools are just crumbling and most people can't afford private schools. Myself, I want my children in an environment outside of public school. Just a preference my husband and I have. We have one in college (pre-med), one about to graduate from Calvary, and a homeschooler. It works for us!

If you can do it good for your child
