What's the grossest thing you ever ate?

I never did watch fear factor much. But I got to thinking, what is the grossest thing you have ever eatten?

My wife went to the fridge one morning (half awake) and grabbed the pitcher of orange juice and poured a glass and took a big swigg. It was cold chicken broth!

For me, I once inhaled a mosquito hawk and had to swallow it.

Funny how some things look gross and taste good. Black beans and mole sauce come to mind. I also like snails, octopus, squid, just about anything that crawls or swims. It was a brave person who first looked at a lobster and said, Oh, that looks good to eat!

AnimeSpirit 04-04-2007 03:01 PM

I'm pretty careful about what I eat, but I'd say an Italian pizza is the grossest thing I've ever eaten. In Italy, pizzas are made VERY differently than the way they're made here. I couldn't stand them. :yuck:

joepole 04-04-2007 03:11 PM

I think you got a bum pie. I've had pizza in Italy and it was great. Different (but not radically so) but great.

FACT 04-04-2007 04:06 PM

Pizzas made in Itlay are the ultimate best! Eggplant pizza sounds gross, but it is delicious. After eating the real thing, American pizzas taste awful.

What's the grossest thing you ever ate?

Personally, I've never met a pizza I didn't like. I'd have to say liver and onions is the worst! My parents thought it was something we needed to eat every once in a while. Some expert said it was good for you, I would like to know what crazy person ever thought the cleaning organ of the body would be benificial for your health. Can you imagine all the gunk that is probably trapped in that thing! Needless to say, as an adult I never touch the stuff.

Visceral parts with onions and gravey yes sir this is what keeps those cardiac doctors in business. Eat the filters and throw away the meat
Isaac welcomes you to the fire ;)

I always wondered about that. I thought that Tequila had no worm, and that it was Mescal (sp?) that is a cheaper form of agave beverage that has the worm at the bottom of the bottle. My favorite Tequila is Patron Silver. It is expensive but fortunately I don't drink it that often. LOL, yeah I can see how getting the worm would get your attention!

Real pizzas are made in New Jersey :)
Just ask anybody :)

Isabella 04-04-2007 10:23 PM

If someone offered me a million dollars to eat liver and onions I would refuse! I would not eat squid, or sushi either. The grossest thing I ever ate was my mother-in-law's cornbread dressing.

Texasbelle 04-04-2007 10:32 PM

The grossest thing I have ever eaten is an oyster. I tried one when I was 15 years old (yes Isaac that was 25 years ago!) and it was just the worst thing ever. BRRHHHH who wants to eat something that looks like a giant cow booger? Not me. Never will eat one again.

My best friend's daughter was on Fear Factor (she won!) and had to eat fermented squid guts. She said it was so horrible you can't imagine. Well I can imagine what I would do if I had to eat it!:barf:

LOL, does your mother-in-law know that ? ? That's FUNNY!!

Isabella 04-04-2007 11:47 PM

No, she is deceased now. I always made sure we did not go visit on holidays, so I would not have to be rude.

Isaac-Saxxon 04-05-2007 09:20 AM

Mother-in-law will try to poison you with out dated food

I try not to eat anything my mother-in-law has out or on the table. She does not throw stuff away. I would run up to Sonic or something but no more poison from her table. I am glad my dear wife did not pick up that trait. Well not yet anyway

What is it about the holidays.. seems they're always full of added stress.
Speaking of Mother-in-laws, mine is alright, but I also have a step-mother-in-law.. DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED !!!

For those of you that have Friday off. TGIT !!! :)

LOL, yeah its a REALLY good thing they don't make "liver sushi" or I'm sure I wouldn't like it! I don't like liver in any which way. But I think fried calamari is pretty darn good.

Quick story. I once had a sushi chef tell me that back in Korea when he was young, they used to eat live squid. First you take a stick and dip it into the barrel and come up with a squid and twist it round the stick and dip it in hot sauce! Then eat it! He said you could feel it move in your mouth!

I think I would have to be in Korea and not Shreveport to try that one!

refugen3 04-05-2007 02:13 PM

oyster anyone

For me this rates right up there on the top of my list of never eat. This is the only food that I could not actually swallow. I think it could be the slimmy texture that gets me.
You know, many people are repulsed by the texture of foods not the taste.
For instance, the oyster if I remember correctly had no distinct taste.
Where as horseraddish the texture is good for me, but the taste takes my breath away. Not a "bad" taste more like a fire taste.

I guess that means fear factor is out for me! They're always fixin' that slimmy stuff. I could most likely handle the hissing cockroaches. :D

Now that would make you feel good in the morning :o now live squid I have used for bait but never thought about sticking it in my mouth. I do love fried calamari  I have seen it on sushi tray before but that might have been octopus and I do not know if it was raw or cooked. What say you rherz have you had that at a sushi bar ?
Isaac

Neo 04-05-2007 02:21 PM

It all tastes like chicken, except for fish.

Yes, squid at the sushi bar is cooked and therefore rather chewy (like calamari). Just what you would expect, and very similar to octopus in texture.

BTW I ate some "salmon belly" last week which is like Toro is to Maguro (Tuna) and it was very good. I had no idea I liked raw salmon because I hate it cooked so I never tried it.

Isaac-Saxxon 04-05-2007 02:29 PM

The only way to ever eat salmon is sushi

When I try cooked salmon it smells like fish   so I like a bit of soy and rice with that please no heat needed. I had a friend from up north bring me some salmon that was cured in salt water and some other stuff well it was nasty :nono: and it was cold so I heated some of it up and the whole house smelled like fish. Mama not so happy with Isaac

AnimeSpirit 04-05-2007 03:43 PM

I don't eat sushi. I had a g/f a few years ago that did. She ate all kind of weird foods (i.e. sushi, squid, escargot, pocky, seaweed, etc.) and she called me a picky eater. :freaky: When I was overseas on deployment, she often asked me what I had to eat because she encouraged me to try foreign foods. I'd usually just mumble for a second and say, "uh....McDonald's," and she'd get all irritated at me. But she as cute when she was mad! :D

scarlett 04-05-2007 08:34 PM

Can you believe I got negatives for hating squid and liver? my gosh people are something else......

Pocahontas 04-05-2007 08:48 PM

Watch out for bagged spinach salads!

Unfortunately the absolute worst thing I have ever eaten was a green stink bug hidden inside a bag of Popeyes spinach! I never even saw it just bit right in and was totally repulsed by an indescribable bitterness! When I spit it out I couldn't believe my eyes! Where's Kirby Kelly when you need him?

Pocahontas

Texasbelle 04-05-2007 09:19 PM

Kirby Kelly!!!! Do I have a story about him!!!

All I can say (since he is an attorney) is watch out for him in Superior Steakhouse! He certainly provided my girlfriends and I with some entertainment to watch and laugh at.

oh my im scared to ask he's the guy w/ the hat right?

Texasbelle 04-05-2007 09:47 PM

Yes, he is except he doesn't look like that anymore. Apparently we've lost weight, had a hair transplant or something, and maybe a little surgery!

Isaac-Saxxon 04-05-2007 09:56 PM

So we would call him butt head

Al Swearengen 04-05-2007 10:44 PM

LOL, nope, don't think I could handle any Raw Oysters myself.. just the thought.. ughh.. But my grandmother from Nawlins used to make this Oyster dressing for Thanksgiving.. that was just out of this world ! Admittedly, this was nothing much to look at. Not very appealing as far as looks. But DAMN it was good.
Glad to say my mother carried on this tradition, and so has the wife :)

That's pronounced "Ershter Dressin'"

Aiiiieeeeeeeee

Texasbelle 04-05-2007 11:20 PM

The thing about Oysters is that you can tie a string around them before you eat them, and pull it back up and eat it again if you get hungry!

P.S. I dont eat them. They're nasty!

scarlett 04-06-2007 09:21 AM

Liver and squid are the 2 things that gross me out more than anything. I have tried sushi and I can't think of what's in it or I won't eat it.

LOL, yes, that's what my dad used to say about oysters !!!

refugen3 04-06-2007 12:09 PM

That was halarious. (the bit about the oyster on a string)
I think what I enjoy about this site the most is the humor.

Around here it's pronounced "oishtur"
