LSU AgCenter to coordinate State Fair educational exhibits
LSU AgCenter has renewed and expanded its partnership with the State Fair of Louisiana and will coordinate the competitive educational exhibits portion of the Agricultural Building for the 2007 show.

The fair, held in Shreveport, will run from Oct. 25 to Nov. 11. LSU AgCenter agents in Bossier Parish Jeannie Crnkovic and Terry Foster have assumed leadership for this effort. LSU AgCenter personnel will offer educational assistance and serve as building supervisors and educational booth representatives.

"This is an organization-wide priority, and agents across the state are encouraged to help out this year," said Paul Coreil, LSU AgCenter vice chancellor and director of the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service.

"We are happy and honored to have the LSU AgCenter's involvement in the fair," said Chris Giordano, manager of the fair. "They have been involved with the livestock shows, but there was a little bit of a hiatus with the exhibits. I'm looking forward to their return. They will bring things to the table that haven't been there in a few years."

"We are asking that 4-Hers, adults and senior citizens enter items in the competitive exhibits area," Coreil said. The new rules, divisions and classes may be viewed on the fair's Web site.

Junior classes include arts and crafts, forestry, photography, clothing and home accessories. Adult classes include canned fruits and vegetables, painting, woodworks, clothing, miscellaneous bazaar and photography. Special classes are BB gun, bees and honey, a talent contest and livestock, poultry and nutrition quiz bowls.

"The true heart of the fair that the general public may not know is education," said Giordano. "4-H, FFA and livestock projects are what it is all about. These events build character, teach responsibility and are things kids keep with them for the rest of their life."
