Mayor and Police Chief Announce Crime Initiative

Shreveport Police Chief Whitehorn & Mayor Glover Announce new Crime Fighting Initiatives
by Tom Pace

“Criminals, we’re watching you, and we’re going to catch you, and put you away.” That’s what Shreveport Police Chief Henry Whitehorn said, as he addressed the issue of mounting violent crime on the Shreveport streets and in our neighborhoods.

And, they’re very serious. Mayor Cedric Glover accompanied Chief Whitehorn to announce two more initiatives aimed at taking our streets back. In a news conference in the Chief’s office yesterday, they spelled it out.

Officially, it’s the second phase of Operation TBONE (Taking Back Our Neighborhoods Everyday).
Dubbed “Operation Closed Market”- this will periodically put more officers on the street to help patrol officers target problem crime areas. In some cases, more than 40 more officers will be deployed to fight crime at any given time.

Getting the guns off the streets is also high priority. Getting citizens to help is the focus of:
“Save Our Neighborhoods.” Chief Whitehorn detailed this 2nd anti-crime initiative.
Working with Crime Stoppers, “Save Our Neighborhoods” offers rewards to people who anonymously inform the police of suspects who may be illegally carrying a weapon….if the suspect is found in possession of a weapon and gets arrested for it, the citizen who reported it will receive $200 for a recoverewd handgun, or $500 for a recovered assault rifle.

Tips should be called into Crime Stoppers at 673-7373, or logging onto www.crimestoppershreveportcaddo,com
