Women Beware! You Need To Get Checked

Susan McKibben isn't positive the pin pricks of pain piercing her abdomen in 2002 were the beginnings of something much more sinister, but that's where she dates the suspicion.

This is so very scary! The lady knew something wasn't right but kept getting misdiagnosed and told she was alright! There's definitely a need for a quicker and more accurate diagnosis!

It seems as though they've never been able to come up with a very good screening tool for ovarian cancer except for a pelvic ultrasound. They do use the CA-125 as a means of measuring the progress of the disease once a patient is diagnosed but not as a screening tool. It's a dreadful disease.

Just what is CA-125 and how does it work ??

If there's no good screening test for this ailment and the symptoms are difficult to identify, I can't see how even being aware of this ailment will help reduce its influence on women. They just need to come up with some way of screening it.

People like to worry about stuff they can't control.

CA-125 is a blood test that measures an antigen that is produced by this type of cancer. If the level is high in a woman, then ovarian cancer is suspected. It is not used as a screening tool because it can have false positives and such. However when the woman has a known ovarian cancer, the oncologist will watch this to help in her staging and to watch the progression of her disease. It's much like a PSA in a man.
