Shreveport Police Union wants to Endorse Candidate in Mayoral Election
The Police Union has requested to be able to endorse a candidate in the Shreveport's Mayor race. They believe state law prohibits such activity. There are different legal interpretations so they've asked a Caddo District Court judge to allow them to do just that.

Don't really get this..
It seems to me, that I've always heard of Police Unions Endorsing different political candidates. Is this a Louisiana only law ? or something new ?
I suppose I can see why there might be such a law, and at the same time don't see it being that big a deal ? Latenight. |
police and politics
I can understand why the union might be prohibited from political activity. I wish mine was. It is not good to know your dues are going to candidates you would never support. But I don't understand why individual policemen are gagged. They shouldn't put bumperstickers on their patrol cars, but they should be able to personally endorse whomever they please, in my opinion.
