Skeleton Found In House Years After Death

http://www.wfsb.com/news/13473195/detail.html?cnn=yes

[quote]The skeletal remains of an elderly woman were found Friday in her home, more than seven years after neighbors last reported seeing her. Officers visited the property Friday and found Simmeck's skeletal remains after a family member became concerned about Simmeck's absence and called police[quote]

My main question in this is why did it take the family seven years to miss this woman. Uhmmm. Something ain't right.

To me, it points out that most have lost their "sense of family". People either get too busy and self indulgent to check on their elderly family members or if that said family member doesn't have something for them (as in inheritance), then they are often 'done' with that person.

This is a sad story.

But 7 years, that is a long time. Even her neighbors didn't check on her. Another thing, her utilities were still on, who's been paying the bill.

One more thing I don't know a utilitiy company around that will let the bill go 7 years.

Skeletons don't use much electicity. Either that, or else she had a fat bank account with auto debt setup for her electric bill.

Didn't they just have this same situation somewhere down South where the Hurricane's hit? I believe I read a story in People of a man who had died during the hurricane apparently of natural causes but no one found him until just a couple of months ago. Strange.

Yeah, I heard about that too, but I'm not sure where exactly he was. He stayed in his home and weathered the storm while a tree fell on his house, I think. When others began returning to the area to begin rebuilding, they assumed he evacuated and moved in with family elsewhere. He remained in his home, where he died, for well over a year before someone found him.

I'm not sure but seems like I remember something on that too. But at least he wasn't left 7 years.
