Cattle trailer overturned -- I-220 closed
Shreveport Police Department, with assistance of the Caddo Sheriff's Office, the Shreveport Fire Department and the Louisiana Department of Transportation, rounded up more than 100 cows that escaped from a truck that overturned on Interstate 220 near I-20.
The accident occurred just before 11 p.m. when the 18-wheeler filled with 117 yearlings shifted its load in the curve, causing the truck to overturn. Approximately five cows were killed -- some were hit by cars, others fell off the I-220 bridge. At least one car was damaged, but no humans were injured. Officers have closed Interstate 220 while they are trying to round up the loose livestock. Most of the cattle have been located along Highway 3132 (Terry Bradshaw), but some traveled as far as Walker Road and Jefferson Paige. Others may be wandering in the wooded areas along the major thoroughfares, so motorists are urged to use caution in case some venture onto the roadways. By around midnight, officers reported that some of the young cows were beginning to settle down and actually fall asleep in the median of Highway 3132. No charges are expected to be filed against Donnie Bennett, 43, of Kansas. Bennett was driving the rig for Jimmy Rogers Trucking and was headed to Garden City, Kansas, after picking up the cows in Montgomery, Alabama. http://www.shreveport.com/forums/ima...c6297e5dee.jpg |

I worked one of the wrecks involved- there were several. One driver told me that a cow went over the side of the overpass onto I-20:eek: Apparently, there was some "duckin and divin" going on, which caused all the wrecks. When I got on the scene @ about 12:30 AM, all I saw were a bunch of cops with flash lights running all around- I though they were chasing a fugitive or something. Once I figured out which car was mine, I asked the driver what the heck was going on, and thats when he said they were chasing cows.....
Unfortunately for the cattle, the driver of the truck took that curve WAY too fast, and turned over. Thats why I wouldn't drive a heavy duty wrecker, those guys with lloyds were out there for hours loading and cleaning all that mess. Not fun-:peace: |
Somebody needs to come round up the cattle in our pasture. They aren't ours and need to be gone!!!!
