joepole, you are correct. Commercial aviation is *by far* the safest form of travel by any measure. Speaking for myself, I do not know anyone who was killed in a plane accident. But my brother and my accountant were both killed in car accidents in the 80's.

Driving is dangerous, yet is doesn't make me nervous at all to drive a car, as long as I am driving. But I hate to ride as a passenger in a car. As for flying, I simply hate it (post 9/11) even though I know it is safer. I have never piloted an airplane but I figure as long as I am "driving" I feel safe.. LOL, I think a lot of people may feel that way.
