The initially unplanned total demolition of a downtown building that has drawn the ire of preservationists will be rebuilt to replicate its original historic architecture, city officials pledge.

That does little to soothe those who lament the loss of a building that had the distinction of being the first Ford Motor Company building in the state of Louisiana, dating to the early 1900s.
