Hospital chief explains rope found in break room

A noose found in a doctors' break room at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport could be a piece of rope fashioned with a knot and a loop and used to treat orthopedic patients, the head of the facility said today.
Administrators at the hospital and medical school notified federal authorities on Wednesday because they were concerned the rope, which had loops on each end, could be construed as a hate crime to intimidate African-Americans.
Dr. John McDonald said there are alternative explanations to the noose-like device.
It could be a rope that is tied and used by surgeons to give traction to fracture patients, McDonald said.
