For four decades, many residents in the town of Reeves, Louisiana, have been fighting what is referred to as: ‘the mark of the beast’. The telephone prefix ‘666’ was deemed offensive to some in the Christian communities, because of those numbers symbolism.

That issue has now been resolved, with the help of U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu.
“We’ve been fighting this battle for over 40 years,” said Reeves Mayor Scott Walker. “Recently, we contacted Senator Landrieu’s office, and she was instrumental in pushing this through. We sure do appreciate everything she has done for us.”

“I’ve been working with Mayor Walker, CenturyTel and Public Service Commissioner Dale Sittig to get the prefix changed.” said Landrieu, “Now, the Reeves community will now have the option to change their telephone prefixes.”

Reeves citizens have until the end of March to contact CenturyTel to change their prefix for free. Reeves City Hall made the change January 2nd, 2008.

Located near the Texas/Louisiana border in the southwest corner of the state, Reeves, Louisiana population is estimated at 212.
