We blocked quite a bit at the router and controlled their ip address with it. It worked for years but not all sites can be caught so we just monitored with VNC.

everyone in the house had each their own computer and I would have never had it any other way. I am not one for sharing my computer the few times I did I always came back to some thing changed, even with a different login.

It's also a good tool to use when they need punishment, take it away for a week and watch the child behave differently.
