Blake Franklin “Troubled”: cries “Foul” in MMA loss

Franklin claims low-blow to groin cost match, part of testicle

It will be a Mixed Martial Arts match, Blake Franklin will not soon forget. As the “local favorite”, Shreveport’s Franklin, took to the ring in Municipal Auditorium Friday night, expecting a win.

Instead, Franklin alleges, he was kneed in the groin, causing him to double-over in pain, and eventually “tap-out” in submission to his opponent. Going by the nickname “Trouble”, Franklin says he underwent a two and a half hour operation to his groin, during which, according to Times writer Roy Lang III, they removed some 70 percent of one testicle. Lang writes that Franklin will be sidelined for about a month.

Franklin wants the loss removed from his record, and to be re-classified as a “no contest.” According to Dana Pitcher, the promoter who produced the fight, the videotapes have been reviewed by State Boxing Commission officials, and it appears there is no evidence of the illegal below-the-belt hit.

That decision to change the loss to a no-contest is still under review.

A crowd of some 1,700 watched the top-notch MMA event, produced by Dana Pitcher Productions at Municipal Auditorium. Pitcher says he will return to Shreveport next year, with a Championship Boxing match. The fight fans were impressed with the caliber of contestants in the MMA event, and say they will definitely support other events put on by Pitcher.

How does somebody loose 70% of a testicle?? I figured that would be kind of an "all or nothing" deal.....per testicle that is...
