IANAL, however I think the criminal trial is based on the concept of "beyond a reasonable doubt" whereas the civil trial is based on the concept of "preponderance of the evidence". So I guess this was a case where there was a preponderance of the evidence but not so much so that it was not beyond a reasonable doubt. Dang I should have listened to my mother and become a lawyer.

the phreak killed his wife! I remember the long agonizing case. I was married to someone who was abusive well you know I made it to s'port in no time I left due to things going on in the area and this case believe it or not.
