Hightower has already said he would not care if the city sold it. He stated that Shreveport built it only after no private supplier would build it.

Hightower used state and local taxpayer money to build the downtown hotel next to the convention center after no private developer was willing to do it. He felt the hotel was essential to the convention center's success. Critics say it will always be a drain on the city treasury.

The former mayor said he won't have a problem with seeing his $52 million baby in private hands.
