Crime Stoppers pays Tip Money for Illegal Gun Info: Two Arrests Made
“Operation Don’t Shoot…I want to Grow Up” sees results in 1st week By Tom Pace, Executive Editor SBLive! December 10th, 2007 Shreveport Police are sending a message loud and clear: Crime doesn’t pay, but Crime Stoppers will, for your anonymous tips leading to getting illegal guns off the streets. Because of the recent initiative "Don't Shoot...I want to Grow Up", Crime Stoppers will be paying out two separate rewards for information that led to three arrests and the recovery of two weapons last week. The first incident occurred Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the 6800 block of Rasberry Lane when police were called about offenders bringing an assault-style rifle on a school campus. The suspect vehicle had left the campus, but officers located it in the parking lot of McDonalds in the 6700 block of Pines Road. Danny Ashley Jr. and Charles Everett Jr., both 19, of Shreveport were arrested and charged with possession of a weapon at school. The two had been attending a basketball game on the campus and had returned to their car when they took the weapon out of the trunk and placed it on the backseat. They then drove to the restaurant. The gun was found at that location after officers got consent to search the vehicle. (The tipster in this case will be entitled to a $500 reward.) In the second case, a man was arrested in the 400 block of Egan Street for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Tavaseza Collins, 20, of Shreveport was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on Dec. 6 after police received information that he was keeping a shotgun at the home. Because he was a convicted felon with numerous burglary charges, he was not allowed to have a weapon. (The tipster in this case will receive $200.) Crime Stoppers will pay up to $500 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest of someone illegally carrying a firearm and the seizure of a weapon. The following is illegal:
