Post United States Needs A Bigger Army

The Army has set 2012 as its target date for a force expansion to 547,000 troops, but Gen. George Casey said he told his staff to have the soldiers ready earlier.

Yes we need a bigger Army

More than that the Democrats need to get some back bone and stop their pursuit of a Socialist agenda to try to tear this country down. Their Socialist agenda is helping the enemy and hurting our troops.

The military would probably be bigger if recruiters didn't run such a sly business in trying to fill their monthly quota. I could never be a recruiter. I'm too honest!

The media has done everything they can to give the military a bad name. Recruiters are all just people and there are good and bad. If you recall during the great WWII people underage where using fake Id's to get in and people still make a career out of the military. If we made all kids that do not go to college or get a full time job do a two year hitch in the military we would see crime go down. All young men in Israel do a hitch no matter if they work or not. In some countries if you are born male you will be in the military I know it is not for everyone to make a career out of but good to build work ethic. I know you have been to the fire so you do know more about the inside than I do.

Government jobs, such as military service, will never be as appealing as jobs in the private sector as long as we live in a thriving economy and continue practicing free enterprise.

I remember the recruiter in "Private Benjamin" telling Goldie Hawn a thing or two. Here is an interesting article I found....

Top 10 Lies (Some) Recruiters Tell Applicants

1. Your chances of being sent to a combat zone are slim.
2. You are much more likely to get murdered in your home town than you are to get killed or wounded in combat.
3. You are absolutely guaranteed to get the job listed on your enlistment contract.
4. If you don't like the military, you can simply quit.
5. If you refuse to ship out to basic training you will go to jail.
6. Once you complete your enlistment you can get out and won't be called back again.
7. You have a great chance of getting the assignment (location) you want.
8. If you spend 20 years in the military you can retire and receive one-half of your pay for the rest of your life.
9. They don't yell in Basic Training anymore.
10. This is the modern military. We don't cut off all of your hair during Basic anymore.

That so is freaking true! Many recruiters do say many of those things and they are WRONG!!! I remember a guy I worked with back on the Spruance named Gary Trent. This guy wanted out SO bad that he'd go UA for 29 days every month. He'd show for muster on that 30th day to avoid being reclassified as a deserter, then he'd disappear for 29 days. He'd go to Captain's Mast every time and they would only extend his punishment again and again. They didn't care that he wanted out.

I felt bad for him because he was a nice guy and was very friendly. He just wasn't given what he was promised when he signed those papers.

Personally, if I were still in the military and putting my life in the hands of my fellow serviceman, I would NOT want a guy beside me who didn't want to be there in the first place. If he isn't focused on the job, send him home! Better that than letting him get someone killed.
