Post Spam now accounts for nearly 95-percent of all e-mail

According to a report released this week by a U.S. web security firm, spam (junk email) has skyrocketed from 70 percent to 95-percent of all email, despite the "Can Spam Act" of 2004.

spam spam spam.. the percentage of spam has gone up.. but the total amount of spam has gone down. I think more and more folks are giving up on email, a freakin' pain what with all the spam.

I think the younger kids.. who are happy using Instant Messaging and the like, are less likely to use any kind of email these days.

The visionary Billionaire Microsoft co-Founder Bill Gates once predicted spam would be gone by 2006. (damn too bad that didn't work out)

I used to think, hey if I send off an email, the recipient is going to get that email. But now a days, it seems that email is just as likely to get caught by someone's spam filter. Feels to me about as reliable to Cell Phone service these days.

And so it goes.

And the other 4% is jokes or stories you've already heard forwarded by a one click friend/relative who is to lazy to turn an actual thought or feeling into text, leaving 1% which is notifications from businesses that the transaction that you know you made yesterday...... has in fact been made!

Maybe it's too late for me to run for office, but if elected President, I would pledge to cut spam by 90% with my "War on Spam" platform. It wouldn't be hard. I would treat the spammers like drug dealers then setup "sting operations" to catch ordinary people who patronize spammers and publish their names in the newspaper. Funding would come from fines and judgements from stings and busts. Of course the war could never really be "won" so it represents a whole new growth sector of government that could provide jobs and economic growth for decades. Then if that doesn't work, I would just outlaw mail servers entirely, and give it all to the US Postal Service or AT&T. I'm just saying, use the old tried and true methods that have worked in the past.
