Many exciting new developments are occurring in the fields of science and technology in Shreveport. One example is the 800-acre InterTech Science Park where modern biotech companies, chemical information technology companies, drug research and development companies, and manufacturing facilities employ more than 13,000 people. The InterTech Science Park exemplifies a working relationship between commercial businesses, academic institutions, and local and state government whose interest is to create a business environment that is conducive to science and technology companies, thus creating more jobs that pay higher wages.

The Biomedical Research Foundation of Northwest Louisiana

The InterTech Science Park is sponsored by the Biomedical Research Foundation of Northwest Louisiana, a non-profit organization whose mission is to stimulate a regional, knowledge-based science and technology economy by attracting and cultivating technology related businesses. The Foundation has established several K-12 education initiatives including the MST Biotechnology Magnet Academy, the Math, Science and Technology Cluster Partnership, the Biotechnology Technical Training Program, and the Science and Medicine Academic Research Training Program. The Foundation also works together with Shreveport’s institutions of higher learning such as Southern University at Shreveport to develop new programs for students who wish to enter the science and technology fields. Programs offered by Southern University at Shreveport include Associate Degrees in biology, chemistry, computer science, aviation maintenance and technology, and electronics technology. Louisiana State University in Shreveport offers many science and technology degrees including an advanced graduate degree in Masters of Science in Computer Systems Technology (MSCST). The 3-way partnership between business, academia and government is enabling people to obtain the kind of training necessary to fill the new jobs that are opening up in the fields of science and technology in Shreveport-Bossier City.
