Post Retired Air Force general to lead Jindal's veterans affair advisory group

From Staff and Wire Reports

Governor-elect Bobby Jindal has tapped two retired military officers active in civic and retiree affairs for his veterans affair advisory group.

Retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Peyton Cole of Bossier City, who commanded the 2nd Bomb Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base from 1992 to 1994 and before that was a legislative liaison at the Pentagon, will be chairman of the Veterans Transition Advisory Council, Jindal's office announced Monday.

Retired U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Ken Bourgeois of Shreveport will serve as the council's vice chairman.

The council will hold public hearings on veterans issues and make recommendations to Jindal about policy positions. The group also will review applicants who want to be veterans affairs secretary in the Jindal administration.

"We plan to get together and determine what kind of hearings we need to hold to give our governor-elect a road map for veterans affairs in our state," Cole told The Times just hours after Jindal tapped him for the leadership role. " We have a chance to change this state and fix this state."
