Parkway Pantherland Band Invited to Play Carnegie Hall May 11, 2008
50 Piece Wind Ensemble conducted by Mark Minton makes Final Cut

It’s the classic question: A guy walks up to another guy in New York, and asks “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” His reply: “Practice, practice, practice!” Well, that practice has paid off for the Parkway High School Wind Ensemble, conducted by Parkway Band Director, Mike Minton…

Because, the Pantherland Wind Ensemble, 50 persons strong, will be flying to the Big Apple, to perform Sunday, May 11th at 2pm at Carnegie Hall, in New York City. Of course, nothing comes easy, according to Mike Minton, who says he started the application process to Carnegie Hall, back in March of this year…and, three cut-downs later, The Panthers are in.

During the lunch hour this afternoon, the Pantherland Wind Ensemble, performed a mini-concert of Christmas songs, in the atrium of the Regions Bank Building in downtown Shreveport, Louisiana. A small crowd gathered ‘round, listening to the beautiful melodies of “Sleigh-Ride” and, more season’s favorites.

Today’s performance was two-fold: to entertain… and to ask for donations for the band members, to help defray their airfare cost for the round-trip (about $1,600 apiece, says Minton…totaling nearly $100,000, when all totaled, he said).
