Mayor Glover to Local Ministers: Help Stop the Killing!
Mayor Glover to Local Ministers: Help Stop the Killing!
Mayor Convenes 100 Area Pastors to Outline Plan in Stopping Violent Crime By: Tom Pace, Executive Editor, SBLive! December 20th, 2007 The poster from Shreveport’s ‘Operation T.B.O.N.E.’ says it best: ‘End the Silence. Stop the Violence. Stop Killing People.’ That’s the message Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover, and Shreveport Police Chief Henry Whitehorn, conveyed to about 100 area ministers at a noon luncheon today, in the Independence Stadium Sky Club . All faiths and denominations from across Shreveport were represented, along with newly appointed Shreveport Assistant Chief of Police Mark Holley…Shreveport Police Area Captains, and other SPD Chiefs. Shreveport’s Pastors on Patrol Division was also in attendance. Mayor Glover proposed a Five-Point Initiative to Stop the Killing…the major component in his speech “It starts with the Churches.” Both the Mayor, and Police Chief Whitehorn believe that with ministers across the city, encouraging their parishioners to take action against crime. “…we will become the next great city of the south.” The ministers listened. They took notes. They nodded in agreement. They applauded. It was clear, the latest round of killings in the past months, motivated this dialogue between City Hall and the faith-based community. Glover said he’s already directed the Shreveport Police Department to a higher degree of accountability in fighting crime in the community … specifically, dividing the city into four areas, with a Captain assigned to oversee each sector 24/7. No more changing shifts with different personnel. It’s a bold approach, and it looks like it’s working. A pay raise for the Shreveport Police is in the City’s 2008 Budget, said Glover. That’s because, according to the Mayor, Bossier City Police are now paid more that Shreveport officers. The pay raises would allow Shreveport to better compete with other law enforcement agencies – in both salary, and retention. It’s clear something has to be done to end this senseless violence. Too many young people are being killed…too many citizens are turning their heads, and looking the other way. It can’t continue. We must act, now. Let the preachers tell it from their pulpits, just like the poster says: ‘End the Silence. Stop the Violence. Stop Killing People.’ |

The preachers are not killing people Bother main crack head does not care about what the preacher main says. Time for the SPD to do their job and go in the trenches that they are paid to police instead of writing tickets on 49

True, it's not like the murderers and rapists go to church.. Glover is just freakin' cause he doesn't know what to do....who does?? He taps chuch leaders because the murder rate across the river (Bossier) is an order of magnitude less than the city he governs.. I'm not really knocking Glover but rather I'm knocking the statistics that I read in the newspaper every day. If there is a real correlation, then you decide....
