Anybody familiar with Engineering fields?

I plan on going to LSU BR on full scholarship I've received, and going for a major in Chemical Engineering.. or maybe Electronics Engineering.. or.. Electric Engineering.. I'm honestly not the most certain about it. I am only a junior in high school, but I've taken the ACT a few times and I need to take SAT again so I can get all of my scores up, they're all ready fine, but higher is better

Just wondering if anyone here has a degree/background/information about Chemical engineering or other fields to maybe give me a few tips on where to look for advice on internships, careers, or educational opportunities. Thanks to any that reply.

My own son, who is 19, is working towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering. All I know about it is that the math is hard.

I like math, it's okay, as long as.. I don't know how to define it, or any specific area, but some of it just plain sucks because it's very unnecessary looking and too long and out-of-the-way to solve something that's only an abstract concept anyway..

If you are seriously going to go to school for an engineering degree, Louisiana Tech is one of the best engineering schools in the south.

Eh, I really really don't want to go to Tech, mostly because of the Student Life.. or lack thereof. Also, I've heard LSU BR is as good, if not, better than Tech for engineering in certain fields, though I still haven't picked a specific branch.

I already have scholarships to get full admission for both, Tech is cheaper, of course, but being in BR: very close to NO, party school, and far far away from home.

oh and, I also plan on possibly double majoring in a liberal arts field, and minors in others, so that's why I also want to go.

At some point in my life, I hope to get at least one PhD. I would really like to study and get a degree in Philosophy, maybe Psychology/Sociology, Literature, and possibly French, if I move to Quebec, Canada. I'll either be moving to Quebec, Montreal, or Switzerland, I'll decide when the time comes and whichever is more appropriate.

Indeed, and I really like the language, but I'm not sure how well I'd be able to pursue any high degree or qualifications in it, possibly just enough additional study to be very fluent as to be able to look somewhat sophisticated when using the language

I know having a foreign language degree is so important for finding jobs with some major corporations since most of them are involved with other overseas corporations. I know a lot of companies are looking for students with that extra major or minor.

Mhm. I just think I'm ready for a full dissent from my family and my background. I'm the most jet black sheep in a crowd of snow whites, I am nothing like anybody I know, and I would just like to achieve a lot more than my family and other people I'm around have, so being able to communicate with more people around the world and getting a better career would definitely be something I'm interested in.

Well, good luck to you. You sound more like a senior than a junior! Most juniors are not thinking too much at all about their future.

Thank you, I've been considering college and course choices since even last year, and the funny thing is, scholarships that are for 18+ continue to call me almost daily offering me things, but when I tell them I'm a junior and only 17, they all laugh and say "oops, you're a bit too young for our program, but it's a good thing you're already looking for college information, check back with us next year", although I doubt I will.

I'm not trying to specifically plan what I do or everything about my life, it's a waste of it and pointless except to add unnecessary stress. And yes, many juniors even at my school still are clueless about what college they even might attend, or what career they're looking for (sadly, even a handful of seniors.. and they get out of school next week.. eek). But I'm also already enrolled at LSUS and BPCC for dual-enrollment and get college credit for my AP classes daily and also go to extra classes on campus to get my hours, I like being ahead of the game and enhancing myself, in whatever way is possible.
