Post Investigation For Traffic Light Where Children Died

Shreveport traffic engineers have been directed to study the need for a reduced speed limit or a traffic signal near the stretch of North Market Street where two children have been killed by vehicles in the past nine months.

Interesting the city is doing a study when one was done last year by the State. The State concluded the speed limit did not need to be reduced in the area. I think whomever ordered this study is missing the point. The people living in that area are not going to do the right thing no matter what measures are put in place for their safety. If safety was a concern for those living in the area, they would not all be walking down the street and allowing their children to freely roam on a major five lane highway. And where in the snot do they think a traffic light will go? You are going to stop the traffic every five minutes so somebody can cross the street to a convenience store? Stupid.

Belle, I saw that Calvin Lester on the news saying they would put a light there and if the state took it down, they would it back up until it stayed.

There is absolutely no freakin' reason for a traffic light there.. the traffic isn't even that bad.. I'm sure it maxes out around 8-9am and 4-6pm But other than that, just not much trafficc.. No intersections to speak of, to justify a traffic light.

Simply don't play in the street, and freakin' look both ways before you cross the damn street.

I'm very sorry for the family that lost the child in that accident. But if we go around putting up traffic lights everywhere some poor kid forgot to look both ways before he crossed the street.. we'd be in real trouble.

Why can't we just make a city law prohibiting crossing that street on foot? Seems a whole lot easier/faster/cheaper than fooling with a traffic light.

Sounds simple enough but I'm sure it wouldn't be PC to outlaw crossing the street in that particular part of town!

I think the government should build a fancy million dollar pedestrian bridge for the neighborhood at tax payer expense. :sarcasm:

Yes, we must stay PC AND think for them as in putting in a pedestrian bridge so they don't get run over. Basically at this point, they are saying "We aren't smart enough or don't care enough to watch our children and keep them off this street." I would hate to admit that.

LOL, not very......

Issac is "old school". But then, so am I, only I'm not as "cutting edge", LOL.. Only I'm very confused. Like most things, the new PC world has both a good and bad side I suppose.... I do have compassion for those less fortunate as I am, and then again, I'm for smaller government and less socialism.. I guess that makes me a wimpy conservative, or else a hard core moderate. Or something like that. Issac might say I sit on the fence.

As a side note, I remember the first "monkey cage" I ever saw built over I-20 near Watertown in the early 70's... But I will bet on one thing. If I had to cross I-20 or Hwy 1, I bet I'd make it! Mama didn't raise no fool! You got to be high or very young to get pegged by a car! I was also good at dodgeball!

yes there is.. I would rather be called a "fence sitter" rather than an "extreme fundamentalist" although I see myself as being somewhere in between.... (mid to right field) but definitely in the ball park!
